Today I wanted to share my strategy with you on how I get ready for my photoshoots. This is a simple process that I want to take you through and only consists of 5 step so it shouldn’t be too hard to follow along. This is not the the end all be all, It’s just the way I do it so feel free to add your own spin on it. My goal is just to get your gears turning in the right direction. So let's get to it.
Concept - So you don't want to walk into a shoot without a plan. When you plan out your concept in advance you’ll have a better understanding of what you are trying to accomplish and whomever you’re doing the shoot with will be able to see your vision as well. I like to collect images off Instagram, Pinterest or google to crete my concept or moodboard.
Location - Depending on your concept, a specific location may be required. It may be a studio environment or somewhere more specific. If you’re shooting on location be sure you get a permit so all your hard work doesn't get shut down on production day.
Team - having a team really helps you to stay focused on the photography. When i set up a team I like it to consist of a makeup artist, Stylist and photo assistant.
Production day/Equipment list - Production day is where all your efforts come together to create your vision. Sending out a call sheet with Date,Time, location and the team info key to having everyone on the same page. You will also need to map out your equipment list to achieve your concept
Post production - some things will need to be done in post so having a good post production plan helps to create your final image. If you’re not a strong editor, outsource your images to a post production house.
There you have it. My 5 steps on how i set up my photoshoot. I hope you find some value in this. Like I said before this is my process so feel free to take it and tweek it to fit your needs.
